Since 1994, GottaSwing has set the standard in swing dance instruction by offering eight-week progressive (meaning we build upon material from previous weeks) beginner and intermediate Lindy Hop and Jitterbug classes, as well as a variety of special topics designed to broaden your swing dance world.
You never need a partner! We rotate partners in our classes so everyone gets lots of opportunities to dance and practice in class. All ages are welcome.
We work hard to create a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment. Besides learning to dance, you’ll find a new social world to explore and enjoy with ongoing dances as well as special events.
See a list of our locations, plus a video showing the material we cover in our beginner class, on the LOCATIONS page; you can also click here to see our schedule and to register for a class.
Types of Dance Lessons
Swing Dancing: Lindy Hop/Jitterbug
Lindy Hop, also known as Jitterbug, is the original dance of the swing era. Both swinging jazz music and swing dancing evolved in Harlem, New York, particularly at the Savoy Ballroom, developing from Charleston rhythms and the swinging sounds of the Big Bands of the late ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s.
