In 1943, MGM studios filmed a short called Groovie Movie that showcased a style of Lindy Hop made popular in Southern California by Dean Collins. Our heroine, Jean Veloz (nee Phelps) starred in that film. It has since become a favorite of and inspiration for Lindy Hoppers all over the world.

Since first introducing Washington, DC to this style of Lindy in 1998, Tom and Debra have celebrated the original dancers and their delicious style with an annual event. Instruction is by Marcus Koch and Bårbl Kaufer, who's contributions to the world of Lindy are immeasurable. And of course, no weekend would be complete without our darling Jean Veloz; Jean's brother Ray Phelps is back with us too.

You'll be introduced to our stars for the weekend, be treated to a special dance performance by Jean and Ray, and we'll show clips from Jean's swing dance career at MGM at a dance on Friday night at the Hilton Washngton Dulles Airport. Saturday night will be a kick-out-the-jams dance at the beautiful Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park with more memorable dance performances.

After too long of an absence, Gottaswing is proud to welcome back Marcus and Bårbl of Germany's World of Swing as instructors for this year's weekend. Marcus and Barbl were highly influential in the revival of Hollywood-style Lindy in the 1990s, and helped bring Jean Veloz out of retirement and reintroduce her to contemporary swing dancers. Their influence in the world-wide Lindy community is without bounds. They are wonderful teachers, amazing performers, and possess a depth of knowledge and history that is unique.
